Affordable Dentist! Gentle Dentist
At what age should you bring your child for Dental Care Treatment?
The Philippine Dental Association and DentaGem Dental
Clinics all recommend you bring your child in by their first birthday. The primary purpose of this visit is to do a visual exam and to advise you on points such as how to prevent cavities, diet for dental health, how to clean your child’s teeth and gums and how to deal with habits such as pacifier usage
and thumb sucking.
It’s also the first step in getting your child used to going
to the dentist and building trust and rapport.
Your child’s first actual checkup and cleaning should be no
later than 18 months old, when your child has front teeth and a molar or two. There are several issues that your DentaGem Pediatric Dentist looks out for and can prevent if a child is brought in early enough to see him.
At the age of 18 months, issues such as nursing at night
with juice and dietary habits can be checked to see if they are causing your child any problems. At around age 3, any residual habits such as pacifier usage/thumb sucking should be addressed.
With these checks in place, early measures can be taken
before issues get to the point of cavities in the case of dietary aggravation, or a change in position of the teeth or the shape of the jaw in the case of pacifier usage/thumb sucking.
We’ll make your child feel at home from the beginning!
Probably the first thing your child will do when they get here is play, while the adults get to know each other. They’ll get to enjoy movies, the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, toys or even snacks. When you and your child are ready, their first step will be acomplimentary dental checkupthat's complete and thorough!
At all times, parents are welcome to be with their child.
Dental Patient Checkup for Children at no charge
At no charge, our DentaGem Pediatric Dentist does a thorough exam of your child’s teeth and jaw. This very thorough exam includes:
Full treatment plan, including the results of the exam, recommended treatment and number of visits.
Your first dental care visit also includes oral hygiene instruction for your child, parental education and anticipatory guidance.
Innumerable studies and research have concluded on the importance of starting children early in their lives with good dental hygiene and oral care.
According to research, the most common chronic childhood disease in America is tooth decay, affecting 50 percent of first-graders and 80 percent of 17-year-olds. Early treatment prevents problems affecting a child’s health, well-being, self-image and overall achievement.
The National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research estimates that children in the US will miss 52 million hours of school each year due to oral health problems and about 12.5 million days of restricted activity every year from dental symptoms. Child oral health is a priority!
Parents are responsible for ensuring their children practice good dental hygiene. Parents must introduce proper oral care early in a child's life—as early as infancy. Good oral hygiene routine for children includes:
Thoroughly cleaning your infant’s gums after each feeding with a water-soaked infant cloth. This stimulates the gum tissue and removes food.
Gently brushing your baby’s erupted teeth with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and using a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste.
Teaching your child at age 2 or 3 about proper brushing techniques and later teaching them brushing and gentle flossing until 7 or 8 years old.
Regular visits with their dentist to check for cavities in the primary teeth and for possible developmental problems.
Throughout your life, you will have two sets of teeth: primary (baby) teeth and secondary (permanent) teeth. At age 6-8 months, the primary teeth appear; all 20 are in place by age 3.
Permanent teeth will begin to grow around age 6, and except for wisdom teeth, are all present between ages 12 and 14. The next teeth to grow in are the 12-year molars and finally the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth typically begin breaking through from age 17 and on.
The total number of permanent teeth is 32, though few people have room for all 32 teeth. This is why wisdom teeth are usually removed. Your front teeth are called incisors. The sharp “fang-like” teeth are canines.
The next side teeth are referred to as pre-molars or bicuspids, and the back teeth are molars. Your permanent teeth are the ones you keep for life, so it is vital that they are brushed and flossed regularly and that periodic check-ups by a dentist are followed.
